                                   Preface

The Alberto Mendelzon Workshop (AMW) is a Latin American initiative
started in 2006 to honor the memory of Alberto Mendelzon, who gave a signif-
icant contribution to the field of data management. The AMW is a discussion
venue for top-quality research in foundations of data management; while focused
especially on Latin American students and scholars, the workshop is open to
submissions from anywhere and it has so far gathered some of the world’s best
researchers in the field.
This volume contains papers accepted at the 9th edition of the AMW, held
in Lima, Peru, from the 6th to the 8th of May, 2015. The call for papers
of this edition solicited two types of submissions: regular and short papers,
where the latter were intended to present ongoing research, results published
elsewhere or applications. With 40 submissions we could put up an exciting
program, which gave raise to discussions and new ideas. Despite the beauties
of Lima, including its sophisticated cuisine and drinks, the attendees and the
organizers worked hard and made the AMW 2015 a great success, both from
the scientific and organizational point of view. The school, which took place
before the workshop, provided local students with tutorials whose quality was
on par with those at the best conferences in the area. The invited talks at the
workshop were also certainly world-class and given by leading researchers: Guy
van den Broeck (KU Leuven, Belgium), Wagner Meira Jr (Universidade Federal
de Minas Gerais, Brazil), Dan Olteanu (University of Oxford, UK), and Victor
Vianu (UC San Diego, USA).
For what we are proud to call a very exciting scientific event, we would like
to warmly thank, in no particular order: the authors of the papers, the Program
Committee and the external reviewers, the local organizers, the AMW School
committee, the Steering Committee, the General Chair and the local supporting
institutions. Without the effort of all the above, the AMW 2015 could not have
been successful.
We are also looking forward to the next editions of the Alberto Mendelzon
Workshop, which has become an established and high-quality venue in the area
of data management.
