                                        Foreword

These proceedings contain the papers presented at EAPCogSci2015, the EuroAsianPacific
joint conference on Cognitive Science that was held in Torino, Italy on September 25-27
2015. The conference was organized by the Center for Cognitive Science with the support of
the Cognitive Science Society and hosted at the University of Torino.
The prominent conference series in the interdisciplinary field of Cognitive Science,
the European Cognitive Science Conference (EuroCogsci) and the International Conference
on Cognitive Science (ICCS), joined forces to provide an arena for human-centered,
multidisciplinary discussions of the state of the art in cognitive science.
EuroCogsci conferences take place every four years. The first European Cognitive
Science Conference under the auspices of the Cognitive Science Society took place in
Osnabrück, Germany in September 2003, the second one in Delphi, Greece in May 2007, and
the third one in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2011.
The first conference of the International Association for Cognitive Science (IACS) was held
in Seoul, South Korea in 1997 and the most recent ones were ICCS 2010 in Beijing, People’s
Republic of China and ICCS 2013 held in Sarawak, Malaysia.
EAPCogSci2015 featured five key-note speakers, Nicholas Humphrey, Frédérique de
Vignemont, Minoru Asada, Giacomo Rizzolatti and Josep Perner, one hundred twenty eight
contributed papers and twelve symposia with some sixty participants. No doubt that the whole
work presented at the conference was a good illustration of the exciting advances of the past
decade of Cognitive Science research at the intersection of a number of scientific disciplines
including Psychology, Neuroscience, Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence, Philosophy, and
Cognitive Robotics. We thank all the speakers and the authors for contributing to the success
of the conference. A special thank goes to the members of the Program Committee and the
reviewers for their generous contribution of time and expert knowledge. We would also like
to thank Christoph Hoelscher, chair of the European Committee of the Cognitive Science
Society and Chungmin Lee, honorary president of the International Association for Cognitive
Science who shared with us the ambitious goal to join European and Asian researchers
overcoming geographic distance. We thank the Technical Committee on "Cognitive
Robotics" of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society" for their Technical Support. We
are grateful to our colleagues at the Center for Cognitive Science at the University and
Polytechnic of Turin for their multifaceted help. We also thank the Association for Mind and
Brain, in particular its general manager Cesare Bertone who, with Elena Fontana and Ilaria
Gabbatore, perfectly coordinated the local organization of the conference. Marco Cruciani
was of great help both throughout the stages of the reviewing process and in preparing the
proceedings. His smiling efficiency has been precious.
Finally we wish to address a special memory to our friend and colleague Naomi
Miyake who devoted a continuous and effective effort to connect Eastern and Western
Cognitive Science.
