      <abstract>
        <p>It is a great honor for our University to host, for the first time in our country, the 7th Latin-American Workshop on Communications. This event is the major workshop on Communications in the Latin-American region, bringing a good opportunity to join together professionals, researchers and students, in order to get connected and learn about the most important areas of research and development in these technologies. Our countries are experiencing a great economical development, and the communications technologies are really important in this scenario. It is well known that the communications technologies have a great impact in education, industry, business, social life, and in the search for the equality of opportunities. This has led the academic sector to face the future embracing the new trends that are really challenging: Internet of things, big data, green communications, ultra high speed, the reduction of the digital gap, etc. In our countries, in order to achieve a better future (in technological and social terms), we need to improve more decisively our capabilities of research, development and innovation. I thank the IEEE Communications Society for this annual initiative that contributes greatly to this ideal. After several months of preparation, the Technical Program Committee and the Organizing Committee have made a great effort to offer the best for the authors and attendees. We hope to have met the expectations as the hosts of this year.</p>
