        <article-title>The iStar workshop series is dedicated to the discussion of concepts, methods, techniques, tools, and applications associated with i* and related approaches. Following successful workshops in Trento, Italy (2001), London, England (2005), Recife, Brazil (2008), Hammamet, Tunisia (2010), Trento, Italy (2011), and Valencia, Spain (2013), Thessaloniki, Greece (2014) and Ottawa, Canada (2015), this year, the 9th International i* Workshop (iStar'16) was held in Beijing, China. As with previous editions, the objective of the workshop is to provide a unique opportunity for researchers in the area to exchange ideas, compare notes, and forge new collaborations. This year, the workshop was in conjunction with the 24th International Requirements Engineering Conference (RE'16), benefiting from our common themes and interests shared by the two events.</article-title>

      <abstract>
        <p>As with past editions, we have tried to keep the format informal so as to maximize interaction. Aiming at an inclusive and discussion-oriented workshop, the main criterion for paper acceptance in iStar'16 was relevance and potential for raising discussion. A 31member program committee, consisting of scholars and practitioners with expertise and interest in the field, were involved in reviewing a total of 17 complete paper submissions. Each of the papers was reviewed by three program committee members. Of the submitted papers, all of them were accepted for presentation in the workshop and revised versions of the papers are included in the proceedings that follow. In the event, 13 out of the 17 accepted papers were given 30 minutes for presentation and discussion. The remaining 4 were deemed by the reviewers to be reporting work at its earlier stage and were given a short presentation slot of 20 minutes. This has been a special edition, the new i* core standard (iStar 2.0) has been presented, because of that, the program included two keynotes revolve around this event. The first keynote, given by Professor Dr. Eric Yu (University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada), gave a retrospective perspective of i* entitled “A Brief History of i*”. The second keynote, given by Dr. Jennifer Horkoff (City University, London, UK), presented the newly born iStar 2.0 entitled “iStar 2.0: The Standard i*”. A panel discussing the adoption of iStar 2.0 (Why and How) and a wrap up session concluded the program.</p>
