Dear reader, thanks for your interest in the proceedings of the VLDB2006 Ph.D. Workshop. The workshop took place in conjunction with the 32nd International Conference on Very Large Data Bases (VLDB2006) in Seoul, Korea. The VLDB PhD workshop is a forum for PhD students working in the broad VLDB research areas. This forum aims at facilitating interactions among PhD students and at stimulating feedback from more experienced researchers on the PhD thesis topics. The workshop this year received nineteen high quality submissions. Each paper was peer-reviewed by three different PC members. Based on the excellent reviews eleven papers were accepted for presentation at the workshop. The workshop program was organized in four sessions: Integration and Coordination; Data Processing and Delivery; XML; and Extended Models for Data Management.

We would like to thank each of the program committee members for their sincere efforts to provide high quality and careful reviews. We also thank the authors of all submitted papers for their interests and contributions and the workshop attendees for attending the sessions and lively discussions. Especially, we would like to thank the senior professors that read beforehand the papers to be presented and provided the students with valuable feedback at the workshop.

Last, but not least, we would like to thank the organizers of VLDB2006 for their excellent support to make the workshop a successful event.
