    Preface to the 2nd i* Teaching Workshop (iStarT 2017)


   Welcome to the Second i* Teaching Workshop (istarT 2017), held on November
8th, as a special track of the 5th Symposium on Conceptual Modeling Education, in
the context of the 36th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2017).
   In the past 20 years, Goal-oriented Modeling Languages and Methodologies have
received a lot of attention, requiring analysts to learn how to use different kinds of
models when compared to more traditional modeling approaches. As a result,
academic courses have been created in several Universities (both in the undergraduate
and graduate levels) with the aim of educating future analysts regarding the existing
Goal-oriented Modeling Languages and Methodologies. Moreover, in industrial
settings, training is also required to enable practitioners to acquire skills related to the
Goal-oriented paradigm. Goal-oriented Modeling Languages and Methodologies
include the i* framework, KAOS, the NFR framework, GRL and GBRAM (among
others). The main objective of the istarT workshop series is to share knowledge,
stimulate discussion, foster improved teaching practices, and increase inclusion of
goal-oriented modeling languages and methodologies in educational content.
   istarT 2017 has kept the submission format light, with a focus on in-person
interaction. The workshop’s program was covered in one session, which started with a
keynote speech given by Juan Pablo Carvallo, entitled “From Academy to Practice:
iStar Models for Orchestrating Complex Information Systems Lifecycle”.
Presentation times for the papers have been set at 15 minutes, with 5 minutes of
discussion for each paper, and 15 minutes summary and discussion time at the end of
the session.
   Each of the 3 submitted papers have been peer reviewed by the Program
Committee, with at least two reviews, providing useful feedback for authors. The
main criterion for paper acceptance in iStarT was relevance and potential for raising
discussion. Revised versions of the 3 accepted papers are included in these
proceedings.
   We thank the authors and reviewers for their valuable contributions. We are also
grateful to the organizers of the SCME symposium for the opportunity and to the
Steering Committee members for their trust. Finally, we want to thank the organizers
of the ER conference for their support.
