      <abstract>
        <p>The 8th Workshop on Ontology Design and Patterns (WOP2017) is a part of the series of workshops addressing the topic of high quality ontology design and ontology patterns as best practices. The workshop acts as a gathering point for the ontology design pattern and ontology engineering communities. The aim of this workshop is twofold: (i) providing an arena for proposing and discussing good practices, patterns, pattern-based ontologies, systems etc.; and (ii) broadening the pattern community that is developing its own language for discussing and describing relevant problems and their solutions. This year the workshop included topics on ontology design as well as the traditional topics of ontology patterns. WOP2017 was held as a full day workshop in Vienna, Austria, co-located with the 16th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC2017). Its program included an invited talk, paper presentations, poster session, breakout groups and plenary discussion. The invited talk was given by Pascal Hitzler and was entitled \Ontology Modeling 2.0: Next Steps." Altogether, WOP2017 received 5 research paper submissions, 5 pattern paper submissions and 1 short paper submission. From them, the Program Committee selected the 5 research papers, 4 of the pattern papers and the short paper submission for the presentation at the workshop. All pattern papers were also presented in the poster session. We are very grateful to members of the Program Committee without whom the workshop would not have been possible. We thank our invited speaker,</p>
