      <abstract>
        <p>The International Conference on Software Business (ICSOB) is a conference devoted to discussing software-intensive businesses in different ways. In 2022, ICSOB organized the PhD Retreat which was a one-day event that happened in Bolzano, Italy. In total, five PhD candidates from Germany, Italy, Brazil and Finland submitted their research proposals which were evaluated by two members of the PhD Retreat committee. The five submissions were accepted by providing high-quality early and midstage projects covering agile software development, integration platform, startups and big data, longitudinal user experience, and smart cities environments topics. The five PhD projects were presented during the one-day conference and got feedback from the audience composed of researchers and other PhD students. Besides the presentation, the PhD candidates received mentoring from five experienced researchers from Finland, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Italy. We are grateful to the members of the ICSOB Organizing Committee who helped us in the organisation of the conference and to all the members of the PhD Retreat program committee.</p>
