Preface 1 Preface The 3rd workshop on Resource Awareness of Systems and Society (RAW 2024) is co-located with the COST Action CA19135 CERCIRAS Closing Conference (https://www.cerciras.org/action-events/cerciras-closing-conference/). The work- shop aims to bring together educators, researchers, and engineers from academia and industry to discuss solutions and open problems in the area of resource-aware computing. The primary goal of RAW 2024 is to form a community focused on resource-aware computing, addressing both classical trade-offs such as energy vs. performance, and emerging considerations like resilience, sustainabil- ity, and the use of additional resources (e.g., time, network bandwidth, and human effort) in software systems and processes. RAW 2024 received six research submissions, out of which six satisfied the acceptance criteria and were accepted. The six accepted papers span a range of cutting-edge research in resource awareness, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency of software and the practical trade-offs between per- formance and sustainability. The RAW 2024 workshop consisted of two technical sessions, featuring six research presentations covering topics such as the state of the art, early ideas, work in progress, case studies, industrial cases, open problems, and mature re- sults. These presentations addressed resource measurement, monitoring, controlling, and trade-offs, covering a wide scope of techniques from back- ground theory to innovative solutions across domains. Furthermore, discussions explored different aspects of education, training, research, and practice. All submissions were reviewed by an international program committee, with each paper reviewed by at least three reviewers. The COST Action CA19135 CERCIRAS: Connecting Education and Re- search Communities for an Innovative Resource Aware Society, funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Association1 , involves more than 250 participants representing over 35 countries. While CERCIRAS initiated the RAW Workshop series, as a COST Action workshop, it is now open to all interested participants and presenters with an intention to continue the RAW tradition in the future. In addition, we would like to thank the local organising team at CERCIRAS Closing Conference for technical, logistic, and organisational support.
