Preface The EC-TEL Doctoral Consortium (DC) has been part of the European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL) since its inception in 2005. The EC-TEL Doctoral Consortium and the JTEL Summer School are the main doctoral programs of the European Association of Technology Enhanced Learning (EA-TEL). These two events bring together dozens of junior researchers with senior mentors who together help to shape and enrich the experiences of the PhD students. This, in turn, leads to a stronger community and helps to address the multidisciplinary challenges of the field. This volume contains the papers accepted at the Doctoral Consortium of the Nineteenth European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL 2024) held on September 16, 2024, in Krems an der Donau, Austria. This event was distinguished by the floods that occurred in Austria at that time, thus leading to a hybrid organization, with some students and experts physically present in Krems, with others joining remotely. The DC received a total of 25 PhD proposals, each of which was reviewed by at least one committee member. Out of the 25 proposals, 16 were accepted for presentation at the Doctoral Consortium session in Krems and to be published in these proceedings. The specific format for the EC-TEL 2024 DC on September 16, 2024 was firehouse presentations by student presenters (5-10 minute research overviews) in three separate sessions throughout the day, followed by “speed dating” during each session with senior members of the community. During speed dating, students spoke for approximately 5 minutes with each of the senior researchers in attendance during their session, asking targeted questions such as “Should I narrow or widen my primary research question?” or “Do you have any suggestions about my planned study/ies?”. The goal of this approach was to provide 1-on-1 learning opportunities for all PhD students with as many senior researchers as possible. This also provided an opportunity for career networking for the students, as well as close and confidential conversations with senior members of the community. We express our gratitude to the EATEL association and to all senior researchers who were involved in the reviewing process and who continue supporting future EATEL researchers. Their input and that of the conference organisers remain key in supporting this annual event and its logistics. We wish all PhD candidates a rewarding and productive continuation of their PhD journey. November 2024 Alejandro Ortega-Arranz Bruce M.
