<abstract>

“Mexico cannot be explained; in Mexico, one believes-with fury, with passion, with despair.” Welcome to the 16th Alberto Mendelzon Workshop on Foundations of Data Management (AMW 2024). We welcome our audience to the 16th Alberto Mendelzon Workshop on Foundations of Data Management (AMW 2024) held at the UNESCO World Heritage campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. This workshop continues to be a dynamic and essential forum for computer systems research, bringing together a vibrant and engaged community. This year, fifteen high-quality papers were accepted, reflecting the breadth and depth of challenges in modern data management. The AMW 2024 proceedings will showcase the contributions of these authors following the conference. AMW maintains a rigorous review process, ensuring that experts in the field thoroughly evaluate each submission. This year's papers highlight the evolving landscape of data management research, addressing foundational questions and emerging challenges. We sincerely thank the Latin American Database Community and our colleagues from the Global North for their dedication, enthusiasm, and collaboration in making AMW 2024 a memorable and successful event. We also thank the AMW Steering Committee for their unwavering support in bringing together top researchers worldwide and fostering an environment for knowledge exchange and collaboration in data management and the web. This year's program featured five distinguished keynote talks delivered by renowned experts: We extend our heartfelt thanks to these esteemed speakers for accepting our invitation and sharing their insightful research, summarized in this volume. Organizing an international workshop in Latin America presents unique challenges, and its success depends on the collaboration of institutions, organizations, and dedicated volunteers. We are especially grateful to the VLDB Endowment, whose funding enabled an inclusive outreach program that supported the participation of talented students from Mexico, Latin America, and Indigenous communities, making AMW 2024 a truly accessible event.

We also express our appreciation to the keynote speakers, who generously attended AMW and allowed
us to provide grants for students, further reinforcing our commitment to inclusivity. A workshop of
this scale would not have been possible without the dedicated eforts of the organizing committee :
• Prof. Rocío Aldeco Pérez (UNAM)
• Dr. Ana Sagrario Castillo Camporro (UNAM)
• Their dedicated volunteer staf , who ensured the success of AMW 2024
• Dr. Javier Espinosa Oviedo (University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, France), our Web Chair, played
a crucial role in maintaining an up-to-date and accessible online presence for AMW 2024
This edition also emphasized Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), aligning with the DEI Database
Interconference Initiative. Our program balanced gender, geography, and seniority, implemented
guidelines for inclusive writing and presentations, and incorporated cultural and integration
activities, allowing participants to experience Mexico City’s gastronomic, artistic, and natural heritage.
We sincerely thank all authors for their valuable contributions, the program committee for their rigorous
review process, and all attendees for their active participation and engagement. Your involvement
makes AMW a vibrant and impactful research forum.

We look forward to future editions of AMW and continuing the exchange of ideas and collaboration
that drive progress in data management research.
