The International Workshop on Description Logics is the main annual event of the description logic research community. It is the forum at which those interested in description logics, both from theoretical and more practical viewpoints, meet to discuss ideas, share information, and compare experiences. The workshop explicitly welcomes submissions from researchers that are new to the area and provides quality feedback via peer-reviewing, while at the same time being of an inclusive nature with a very high acceptance rate. Inclusion of a paper in the informal (electronic) DL proceedings at CEUR should not preclude the work from later publication at conferences. This volume contains the papers presented at the 38th International Workshop on Description Logics (DL 2025), held between September 3 and 6, 2025, in Opole, Poland. Every submission to the workshop received 3 or 4 reviews provided by 52 PC members and 3 additional external reviewers. Overall, the committee decided to accept 18 full papers and 33 extended abstracts. The contents of these papers were presented in 31 oral presentations and 20 posters. The program additionally included three invited talks by Diego Calvanese (Free University of Bozen-Bolzano), Jerzy Marcinkowski (University of Wroc law), and Ana Ozaki (University of Oslo). We thank all the PC members for their invaluable eforts in providing helpful and informative reviews for all submissions on time. This year’s edition of the workshop was dedicated to Franz Baader, who is retiring this year. His foundational contributions to description logics and beyond have fundamentally shaped the field, and for that, we extend our deepest gratitude. We hope he remains a valued member of our community despite of his formal retirement.
We want to thank the general chair, Lidia Tendera, and the local chairs Bartosz Bednarczyk and Barbara Morawska for all their eforts in preparing the event locally in Opole, as well as the local team consisting of Marek Barycki and Anna Bochne´ska-Macia lek.
